Bzz Agent Review: UnReal Candy

It has been along time coming, but I have a new review ready for you all. This time it is for UnReal Candy. First things first. For any new readers I am a Bzz Agent. Please read all about it here.


UnReal Candy is candy that is "unjunked". Pretty much taking the junk out of junk food! No artificial flavors or colors, nothing hydrogenated, no corn syrups, preservatives, or GMO's. They have 5 varieties that are an unjunked alternative to national brands. I chose three varieties to try. UnReal 41, 5, and 77.

I didn't get a Milky Way to compare against UN5, as I planned to save that tasty treat all to myself and not submit to the taste test. It was delicious. The nougat has the same mouth feel and taste as a Milky Way, but the caramel looks and feels very different. However, the taste is similar and over all is something I would eat over the Milky Way given the choice. 
The UN5 1.6oz and retails for .99 at my local Walgreens, the Milky Way is also .99, but is 2.05 oz. Nutritionally, the UN5 has 100 fewer calories. less sugar, less fat, but more fiber and protein.

My first volunteer for the taste test was with my husband.

So I had him close both his eyes and had him take a bit of each one. Due to his addiction to Reese's he knew right off the bat which one was which and made up his mind that he preferred the Reese's.  When I took them out of the wrapper, the Reese's chocolate was very soft and melty, the UN77 was firm, and while the same height as the Reese's has a shorter diameter than the Reese's but not by much. Looking at the ingredient label's afterword I realized that the addition of vanilla extract was what he must have been tasting. In fact the chocolate of all 3 varieties I purchased has vanilla extract in the chocolate, the comparable national brands do not.

When it was time for the kids to try it they had more opinions than their father provided.




The bottom of the UN77 has the UnReal logo on the bottom, which the kids found super cool.


My daughter correctly choose which was the UnReal and which is Reese's. She preferred the Unreal telling met that the chocolate tasted better, and the she really like the design in the back. She didn't think that there was anything wrong with the UN77 and would choose it over the Reese's given the choice.

My son said that it tasted a lot like Reese's, and that he also like the design, and he didn't know which one he liked better.

 
The UnReal 77 is 1.3oz and retails for .99, the Reese's is 1.5 oz and retails .99 at my Walgreens. It has 20 less calories than Reese's as well as less fat, sugar, and carbs, more fiber and the same amount of protein.


Last but not least, is UN41. Due to the fact that UnReal doesn't use artificial colors, they had close their eyes for this one. The colors are not as vibrant as M&M's, so right off the bat they would know which is which and I wanted them to tell me about the taste.

Cassidy told me that the UN41 tasted better and different than the M&M's. She loves the colors on the UN41, especially the purple and yellow. She would choose UN41.

Devon thought that it tasted good, but didn't like the colors. He would pick M&M's over UN41 because of that.

If you have concerns about artificial colorings never fear, UnReal uses beetroot juice, turmeric root extract, and purple cabbage juice to color the candy.

When I tried both, I found that I preferred the Unreal. With the M&M's I felt like the shell was adding sweetness, it tasted more sweet than chocolate. With the Unreal, it was "unreal" on how much I liked it. I could taste the chocolate better.

Overall, I really like the UnReal brand. It reminds me of chocolate my gran sends over from Scotland. British chocolate is similar to UnReal in that it doesn't have a lot of junk that chocolate here has. I love the addition of vanilla extract, it just adds something to the taste. I also love seeing that ingredients for their chocolate list chocolate the first or second on the list. Compared to the other brands, except for M&M's which listed chocolate 2nd, they had chocolate listed 3rd or 4th in their chocolate ingredient list!
The Unreal 41 is 1.48oz and .99 and the M&M's are 1.58 oz and .99. The Unreal has 30 fewer calories and as well as less sugar, fat, and carbs, with more fiber and protein as well.

This is candy that you aren't going to feel guilty for eating, and you get just about as much product for the same price as it's counterpart. You can find UnReal at CVS, Walgreens, and coming soon to Target. Get unreal and unjunked!
