Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security 2012 BzzAgent Review

It's been over a year since my last post.

My usual reviews I get are beauty products or cleaning supplies. This time I got a fantastic product to review from BzzAgent. (What is BzzAgent? Glad you asked, check that out here.)

Ready?

Trend Micro™ Titanium™ Maximum Security 2012 (TMTMS) for one year! This campaign included a one year subscription for 3 PC's, one year of Safe Surfing for Mac, and Mobile Security for Android. This review will cover my PC protection. We don't use our Mac for internet browsing and we don't have any Android products.

So what does TMTMS do?
It protects:
Your devices: PC, Mac, and Andriod.
Your privacy: It scans your computer and protects against malware, spyware, spam and other threats that are used to steal passwords, credit card numbers, and other private information.
Your family: It has parental control tools to keep your kids safe.
Your data: It protects your data with Trend Micro Vault, Secure Erase file shredder and SafeSync online storage.
Your social network: It scans any links that appear on your Twitter, Facebook, and Myspace and lets you know which ones are safe.

Again my experience with PC only.

It installs very easy and takes up less space on my hard drive then my previous anti virus program. Set up was also a breeze.

Selecting to gear icon opens up protection settings screen. The most choices are self explanatory, but there a few where hovering your mouse over the ! button explains what that choice means. This where you decided how much protection you want.

My children don't use the computer unsupervised so I haven't set the parental controls. How it works gives age ranges to form a base line. It the gives topics to restrict. You have the big obvious ones like pornography and nudity, and also, among others, allows to block auction sites, gaming sites, sites dealing with miliary/weapons. If you leave the controls on a visit a site that is blocked it will load the screen with a message that it is a blocked site. At the bottom are two links one allowing access for one time, and the second allowing access all the time. As a test I set it to block auctions. I went to an auction site and a the blocked site page popped up. I choose to enter the page once, entered my password and the screen reloading allowing access. The pages appearance is different. Very pared down, and almost no graphics. So if for some reason the website needs to be view as is, parental control must be turned off. You can set different filters for different users on the computer, so it isn't a all or nothing.

My only complaint of this program I was given is that not it did not remove a Trojan that was discovered on my computer, how it detected it and my prior program didn't. It was easily taken care of by deleting the program myself.

I haven't yet tried MircroVault, but it sounds great. What it does is you place sensitive files in the Vault, and if someone is using your computer they can't access those files without your password. If your computer is stolen, simply report the theft to TrendMirco, and the Vault is locked until your computer is recovered. SecureErase ensures that data that you delete from the computer isn't able to be recovered. When it is turned on you have the choice of Quick Erase in which the file is over written a few times with random data to prevent it being recovered from the Recycle Bin. Permanent Erase overwrites the date 7 times, which takes longer, but that data isn't coming back. The last offering for data protection is 10 gbs of storage. You select the files, and Safe Sync backed up, secured and synced.

The last feature is a really great one that I haven't seen before. It scans and informs you what links posted on social media like Facebook are safe to click thru and view. Links highlighted in green are safe, red are not safe, and gray is unknown. Trend states that it works with IE, Firefox, and Chrome. I use Firefox mostly and it currently doesn't work. Firefox updates more often than Chrome or IE and as of this review, it isn't compatible.

Over all I give this product a 4.5 out of 5.
